Sivananda Yoga

Sivananda Yoga is based on a classic Indian tradition and is traced back to the well-known yoga teachers Swami Sivananda and his disciple Swami Vishnudevanada. It is one of the most famous yoga types worldwide and was not adjusted to the needs of Western people. That is why yoga holidays with Sivananda Yoga give you the opportunity to practice this Yoga style in a very traditional way. Swami Sivananda founded the Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh and the Divine Love Society and he loved to welcome his students with mantras like Hari Om. Swami Vishnudevananda defined the goal of Sivananda Yoga as teaching a way that can bring you health and inner peace by balancing and boosting body, mind and spirit. For him inner peace was the precondition for outer peace in the world. Furthermore Swami Vishnudevananda emphasized the correct implementation of postures (asanas), breathing (pranayama), relaxation (savasana), vegetarian nutrition, meditation and positive thinking (dhyana and vedanta). The students practice the so called “Rishikesh series” and the Eastern philosophy is integrated significantly. Swami Sivananda wrote many books about Yoga and Hinduism and Swami Vishnudevananda is the author of the well-known book “The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga”.
