Kundalini Yoga

Thanks to Yogi Bhajan this yoga style is known in the West since 1969. The powerful Kundalini Yoga was guarded like a secret in India before he decided to teach it in public and make everybody feel its benefits. Furthermore Yogi Bhajan founded the famous 3HO (Healthy, Happy, Holy Organisation) and got very popular in the USA and later worldwide. As theme of his life Yogi Bhajan defined to "see God in all". The idea of this yoga type is to awake the Kundalini energy at the base of the spine in the Muladhara Chakra, often described like a coiled snake. From the Muladhara Chakra it can move upwards through the awakening of every single chakra. The goal of Kundalini Yoga is the full enlightenment which occurs when the Kundalini energy reaches the seventh chakra, the Crown Chakra. The practice of this yoga form includes postures, mudras (hand gestures), breathing exercises, chanting mantras and meditation. The Kundalini sequences (called kriyas) are demanding, focusing on a specific part of the body and combined with a special breath to step up the effect. During yoga retreats you can work consciously on the Muladhara Chakra to wake up your Kundalini energy or move it higher and experience the chakras in your body.
