Hot Yoga

This Yoga style is very hot – a vigorous body workout in rooms, that have a temperature of approx. 100 Fahrenheit degrees (approx. 40 degrees). Hot Yoga (also called Bikram Yoga) involves 24 postures of Hatha Yoga which are always performed in the same sequence, and two breathing exercises. The series of poses is designed to “scientifically” warm and stretch ligaments, tendons and muscles. Because of the heat the body achieves its maximum flexibility and the sweaty training activates the metabolism and detoxifies the body. The breathing exercises move fresh oxygenated blood to every cell of the body restoring the systems to healthy working order. Some of the reasons why Hot Yoga is perfect for yoga retreats if you want to get fit and flexible again. Just consider that Hot Yoga means a high pressure for the cardiovascular and nervous system. Founder of this yoga style is Bikram Choudhury who studied yoga with Bishnu Ghosh, who is the brother of Paramahansa Yogananda (author of “Autobiography of a Yogi”). Until today Bikram Choudhury and his wife do yoga courses and workshops of this famous yoga style.
